Growing up as a bay area native, I have recognized how fortunate we are to have some heavyweight local sculptors as neighbors in the bay area. Bruce Beasley has been in West Oakland since the 50’s and is an internationally renowned artist. If you’ve been to Frank Ogawa plaza you’ve seen his work.
Every time I hear him speak, I learn something and have been lucky enough to meet with him a number of times. The moment that stands out the most was a time when touring his shop with a group of students I was mentoring at the Crucible this past summer.
